Box Score 2 GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The Regis softball team lost two close games Saturday afternoon in the North Texas Softball Bash. The first was a 0-2 loss to Lubbock Christian University followed by a 2-3 battle with Texas Woman's University.
Game 1: Regis started out the game with
Bradey King and
Alyssa Finger each on base after both were hit by pitches. King and Finger were left on in the top of the first due to a popup from
Carlie Sexton and a foul out from
Delaney McGinn.
Logan Losh responded in the bottom of the first striking out the first two batters and forcing the third to foul out to third base.
Lauren Hernandez was the first to record a hit in the game placing a single up the middle. Hernandez was left on base to finish the top of the second. Lubbock Christian also tallied a hit but finished the inning with two left on.
The Rangers fell short in the fourth with all three batters striking out. Lubbock Christian jumped at the opportunity scoring the first run of the game to take the 0-1 lead.
LCU struck again in the bottom of the sixth to add the second and final run of the game. Regis attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh behind a hit from
Emily John but were unable to score for the 0-2 loss.
Game Notes: John went 3-for-4 at the plate followed by Hernandez and King each going 1-for-2. The Rangers recorded more hits than LCU, five to four. RU was also higher in runners left on base totaling seven to Lubbock Christian's five.
Game 2: The Rangers started their second game of the day on two strike outs and a popup from
Emily John,
Bradey King and
Alyssa Finger. Texas Woman's put together three hits in their half of the first but were unable to cross the plate.
Regis added a couple runs in the third inning.
Breana Pearsall reached base on a fielding error and was able to make her way to second. John followed with a single to move Pearsall to third and King batted both in by placing a double in left field.
TWU responded with two runs of their own off two hits in the bottom of the third to tie it up, 2-2.
It was not until the sixth inning that Texas Woman's was able to take the 3-2 lead. TWU scored one run off two hits. The Rangers were unable to get the sticks going in the final inning falling 2-3 in their second outing of the day.
Game Notes: John was 2-for-3 in hitting and recorded a run. Pearsall was the other Ranger to cross home and was 1-for-2 from the plate. King was responsible for both runners batted in. The Rangers ended the game with five total hits, half as many as TWU totaled.
Next Up For The Rangers: Regis has one more day of play in the North Texas Softball Bash. They face Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Tarleton State University at 11:30 am and 2 pm on Sunday, February 12.
