Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (18-7, 12-7 RMAC) picked up their fifth-straight conference win with a 76-68 victory over the Chadron State College Eagles (2-22, 2-18 RMAC) on Tuesday night.
Sophomore
Jarrett Brodbeck (7-15 FG, 4-10 3-pt) scored a team-high 19 points on a night that very few players shot the ball well for either team.
How It Happened: In a game that had 16 total lead changes, the score was always tight and each team battled for the full 40 minutes of basketball. With the score deadlocked at 16 points apiece, Brodbeck nailed a jump shot from beyond the arc to put Regis up three, but back-to-back three-pointers from the Eagles gave the lead right back to the visitors. At the end of the first half, CSC found themselves in front 34-31.
Within the first few minutes of the second half, the Rangers managed to get the lead back at 37-36, but the Eagles put the pressure on the home squad as they extended their lead to as many as six-points 47-41 minutes later. This was the largest lead for CSC and from that point on, RU began changing the momentum.
Regis countered with a 10-0 run capped off by a dunk by junior
Dexter Sienko at the 5:13 mark to give the Rangers their largest lead of the game to that point at 64-56. It seemed as if the team had finally found their rhythm as they extended the lead to nine-points with just less than three minutes on the clock. The home team finished off the game draining their free-throws and hanging on for a 76-68 win.
Game Notes: RU shot the ball at a 42 percent clip going 29-69 from the field, and connecting on only six three-point baskets on the night. Junior
Kevin Metoyer scored 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting including 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Brodbeck grabbed a career-high seven rebounds in the game while redshirt-junior
Troy Anderson II tracked down a game-high 10 boards to go along with four points and two steals. Sienko added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Next Up for the Rangers: The men's basketball team will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to face the Griffins of Westminster College (14-7, 14-5 RMAC) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The team will then return home for their final regular season games of the season on Friday, February 24-25.
