Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (18-8, 12-8 RMAC) found themselves on the wrong end of an 87-74 finish with the Westminster College Griffins (15-7, 15-5 RMAC) on Saturday night.
How It Happened: In one of their worst shooting halves of the season, Regis managed to make only seven of their 31 attempts for a shooting percentage of 22.6 percent. One bright spot for the Rangers was senior
Noah King who knocked down 2-of-3 attempts from beyond the arc and grabbed two rebounds in 18 minutes. Whether it was the Griffins defense, or a kink in the RU offense, the visitors found themselves trailing 38-24 after 20 minutes of play.
With a lot of work to do coming out of the break, Regis still could not find their footing in the early going as WC opened up a 10-4 run to start the second half. Junior
Kevin Metoyer had a great second half as he went 7-of-9 from the field, scoring 21 points, and splashing 4-of-5 shots from deep.
The Giffins opened up their largest lead of the game at 73-47 midway through the half. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game with the Rangers making a little run in the end to cut the deficit. It was too little too late for RU as the game came to a close with a final score of 87-74 in favor of the home squad.
Game Notes: Metoyer finished with a team-high 21 points and three assists, as junior
Dexter Sienko (12 points, 4-7 FG, 4-4 FT) was the only other player to net double-digits for Regis. WC, the third best scoring defense in the conference, held sophomore
Jarrett Brodbeck to only five points despite coming into the game averaging 18 points per contest. Freshman
Christian Little continued his run of all-around performances as he tracked down a team-high seven rebounds, scored nine points and dished three assists.
Next Up for the Rangers: The men's basketball team will return home for their final regular season games of the season on Friday, February 24-25 as they welcome the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers (12-14, 8-12 RMAC) and Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets (7-18, 4-15 RMAC) to the Regis Fieldhouse.
