Softball earns two wins in doubleheader home opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – Regis softball picked up a pair of wins in the home opener against Adams State University. The first game the Rangers won 5-1. The second came down to the seventh inning as Regis was able to string together a comeback to win 5-4.

Game 1: Logan Losh was the first to cross home plate in the game. The pitcher started it off by placing a double in center field. Losh was brought around the bases on a pair of errors for Adams State.

Regis struck again in the bottom of the third. Losh sparked the scoring hitting a triple to left center and allowing Delaney McGinn and Michelle Larose to score. The Rangers claimed a 3-0 lead headed to the fourth.

RU scored their final two runs of the game in the fourth inning. Bradey King and Courtney Sexton both scored on a single up the middle from McGinn.
The Grizzlies earned their solo run of the outing in the top of the fifth.

Game Notes: Regis totaled seven hits in the first game and four RBIs. Ca. Sexton and Losh both had two hits on three at bats. McGinn and Losh were responsible for two RBIs each. Losh held it down at the mound allowing four hits and dishing out four strikeouts.

Game 2: Adams State came out swinging in the second matchup driving in three runs in only the first inning. The Rangers gave up three hits and had three errors.

RU didn't respond until the bottom of the third. Alyssa Finger reached second on a hit to center field to start it off. Finger scored on a fly out from Emily John. Regis ended the third inning down 1-3.

Laura Scheffel and Taylor Armitage both crossed home plate in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. Lauren Hernandez reached first on a walk and was moved to second on a single from Armitage. Scheffel pinch ran for Hernandez and Finger hit a double allowing Scheffel to score. The Rangers weren't done as Heronoma grounded out to first for the second RBI of the inning.

The Grizzlies responded in the top of the fifth earning their final run to take back the lead 3-4.

A seventh inning surge allowed the Rangers to take the final lead of the game. The inning started with a walk for Losh and Pearsall. Heronoma was brought back in to replace Losh on second base before John hit a double driving Heronoma around for the run and Pearsall to third. Pearsall was able to earn the game-winning run on a wild pitch to give the Rangers the 5-4 win.

Game Notes: The Rangers earned five runs on eight total hits and created four RBIs. Finger posted two hits on three at bats. John was responsible for two of the team's RBIs. At pitcher, Armitage allowed four runs on nine hits and threw nine strikeouts.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis remains at home to face Adams State in a second doubleheader on Sunday, February 19. First pitch is scheduled for noon and 2 pm at the Regis Softball Field.
