Regis softball splits doubleheader against Adams State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – Regis split in their second day of play against Adams State. The Rangers run ruled the Grizzlies, 10-0, after five innings of play in the first matchup. In the second game, RU almost pulled off the comeback but fell a run short losing 3-4.

Game 1: Regis jumped out to a 2-0 start in their half of the first inning. Breana Pearsall and Emily John both reached base on balls as the first two batters for the Rangers. Bradey King recorded the first hit of the game placing a single up the middle to score Pearsall and advance John to second.

Adams State walked two more batters allowing John to cross the plate and give the Rangers the 2-0 lead.

The Rangers added two more runs in the bottom of the second. Melissa Heronoma kicked it off with a single to right field. Heronoma stole second and advanced to third on a grounder from Pearsall.

John followed with a homerun to bring in two runs and snatch the 4-0 lead.

Delaney McGinn sparked a three-run third inning with a double to left field. Alyssa Finger moved her to third on a sacrifice bunt. Laura Scheffel added a hit with a single to left field to score McGinn.

Heronoma crushed the second homerun of the game for Regis scoring herself and Scheffel.

The Rangers took the 10-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Alyssa Finger landed a homerun over center field to bring in McGinn and Michelle Larose.

Game Notes: The Rangers had ten hits on 20 at bats as a team. King and Heronoma both went two-for-two from the plate. John, Heronoma and McGinn each crossed home plate twice while Finger accounted for four RBIs. Losh allowed two hits and handed out three strikeouts.

Game 2: The Grizzlies struck first in game two taking a 0-2 lead in the top of the second. Adams State added one more run in the top of the fourth and finished with their last run in the fifth.

Regis didn't manage to post a run until the bottom of the seventh inning when they attempted to string together a comeback.

Heronoma singled to center field for the first hit of the inning and advanced to second on a stolen base. Pearsall reached first on a bunt while advancing Heronoma to third.

John came up huge with a double to center to score Heronoma and Pearsall and put the Rangers on the board for the first time in the game. Ca. Sexton placed a single to left field scoring Larose after she pinch ran for John.

The Rangers' scoring streak was cut short when Finger struck out stranding three on base.

Game Notes: Regis had three RBIs on seven hits and 26 at bats. The Rangers reached base on balls seven times but had four strikeouts and left ten on base. Ca. Sexton went two-for-four from the plate. John was responsible for two RBIs. Three pitchers saw the mound throughout the seven innings. Taylor Armitage allowed five hits and threw two strikeouts. Courtney Sexton faced only two batters before Losh came in to close out the game.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis remains at home next weekend, February 25 and 26, to play University Colorado-Colorado Springs. The first doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled for noon and 2 pm while Sunday's back-to-back games are set for 11 am and 1 pm.
