Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – Regis baseball picked up two wins in their first home outing of the season. The Rangers defeated Rogers State 9-2 in the first game and 5-4 in the second.
Game 1: RU struck quickly with
Max Fabricant placing a single in center field in the team's first at bat.
Josh Newell was up next and homered to left center scoring two and jumping to a 2-0 lead.
Regis added three more runs in the bottom of the second.
Logan Heflebower singled to left field and Fabricant followed with a double scoring Heflebower. Newell added another hit allowing Fabricant to score.
Andrew Bryniarski and
Christian Bitar each posted singles moving Newell across the plate and halting the scoring streak until the fifth inning.
Garrett Skillings homered to left field to kick off the fifth. Kobar and Heflebower also each crossed home stretching the lead to 8-0.
Regis added their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Rogers State managed their only two runs of the game in the top of the seventh ending with a final score of 9-2.
Game Notes: As a team, the Rangers posted 12 hits for their nine runs. Fabricant went 3-for-4 from the plate. Heflebower and Bitar each went 2-for-3.
Brad Thoutt threw all seven innings allowing eight hits and dishing out four strikeouts.
Game 2: Rogers State was first to get on the board in the second game adding two runs in the top of the first inning.
The Rangers responded with two runs of their own. Bitar doubled to left field scoring Bryniarski and Bitar crossed home off a single from Skillings.
Regis took the lead in the bottom of the second.
Ryan Tierney scored off a single to center field from Newell putting RU up 3-2.
The Hillcats bounced back in the top of third adding two more runs and taking the lead 4-3.
RU tied the game back at four runs apiece in the bottom of the fifth. Fabricant was able to score the tying run when Bitar grounded out to third.
Bryniarski crushed the walk-off homerun to steal the lead and give the Rangers the win, 5-4.
Game Notes: The Rangers managed five runs on 11 hits in 28 at bats. Newell went two-for-four from the plate.
Chris Quackenbush and
Patrick Kenny split time at the mound. Quackenbush pitched five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. Kenny threw two innings allowing zero hits and handing out one strikeout.
Next Up For The Rangers: Regis returns to action tomorrow, Sunday February 26, for another doubleheader against Rogers State. First pitch is set for 11 am at the Regis Baseball Field.
