Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – In the opening weekend of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action, the Regis University softball team ended day one on a split with the visiting UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (2-5, 1-1 RMAC).

Delaney McGinn led the Rangers offensively on the day going 3-for-5 at the plate. McGinn also scored two runs and stole two bases while recorded six assists and two putouts on the defensive side.

Game 1: Carlie Sexton started things off with a home run to left field on the very first pitch of her first at bat to give Regis an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Rangers brought one across in each the bottom of the second and third to control a 3-0 lead but it would be the bottom of the fourth that put the game away.

McGinn recorded a lead-off single to center field to be immediately followed by a walk from Alyssa Finger. Lauren Hernandez placed a perfect ball in front of the catcher that loaded the bases. Just before a Mountain Lion pitching change, RU brought their fourth run across on another walk.

The Rangers were strong on both sides of the ball but consistency in the box on the offensive side lifted them to the 8-0 five-inning victory.

Game Notes: Logan Losh threw a complete game on the mound for the Rangers to earn her second shutout of the season. Losh faced 19 batters, allowed three hits and tallied two strikeouts. Losh improves to an overall record of 7-3. RU outhit UCCS 7-3 and went down in the book for eight RBIs. Ca. Sexton, Emily John and Melissa Heronema each recorded two RBIs apiece. McGinn stole the Rangers only two bases while going 2-for-2 at the plate and scoring two runs.

Game 2: The Rangers experienced a much different start than the first game. RU was able to hold them scoreless in just two innings. UCCS was first to get on the board in the top of the second to lead 1-0. The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 4-0 with runs in the third and fourth.

Smart base-running by Michelle Larose took advantage of a passed ball to advance to third. With Larose in a scoring position, she was able to tag up on a fly out to centerfield by Heronema. The Rangers struggled offensively throughout the game whereas the Mountain Lions continued to be aggressive at the plate extending the lead once more to 8-1 in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, in a last ditch effort, Regis hit a series of three singles that loaded the bases. RU was unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity to finish the day with a split.

Game Notes: The Rangers were outhit 13-3 and left seven runners stranded on base. Leah Gordon led RU going 2-for-3 at the plate. Taylor Armitage suffers the loss on the mound moving to an overall mark of 2-6.
