DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (12-7, 5-3 RMAC) exploded on the Colorado Christian University Cougars (6-13, 0-5 RMAC) Friday afternoon, scoring 21 runs in a 21-8 blowout, extending their winning streak to five-straight.
Junior
Andrew Bryniarski was the biggest contributor as he drove in a career-high six RBI's, going 3-for-4 from the plate with a double and a home run. Redshirt-senior
Geordy Smith added four RBI's of his own as he collected a double and a home run.
How it Happened: Regis scored six runs in the first, five in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth to take a 16-2 lead after four innings of play.
Senior
Mike Potter drilled his first homer of the season to put the Rangers up 13-0 in the top of the third inning. Bryniarski followed with a two-run shot of his own, extending the RU lead. CCU got their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third, scoring two in the inning.
A double from senior
Josh Newell in the top of the sixth helped the visitors to the 16-2 advantage, but the Cougars managed to push across another run in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to 16-3.
One inning later, the home squad scored two runs cutting the deficit to 18-5, but Regis responded with a three-spot in the top of the eighth as freshman
Antonio Salazar scored and fellow freshman
Kennedy Phillips singled to right-center plating two.
CCU score three in the bottom of the ninth, but the Rangers held off the Cougars 21-8 on the day, earning their fifth-straight conference win in a row.
Game Notes: Junior
Noah Gotsis (W, 3-1) earned his third victory of the season pitching seven innings, allowing 11 hits and five earned runs in the game. Gotsis struck out three batters and did not allow a single walk. Eleven players had hits in the game for RU, with six recording two or more, and three with three hits. Newell, Potter and Phillips all had two RBI's in the game but Bryniarski (6) and Smith (4) did the most damage on the offensive end.
Up Next for the Rangers: The teams will continue their series with a doubleheader tomorrow, game scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The fourth and final game of the series will be Sunday at 2 p.m.
