COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 17 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (7-0, 4-0 RMAC) won their seventh-straight as they beat the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (3-3, 0-2 RMAC) 19-3 on Saturday afternoon.
This marks the fourth-straight game that the lacrosse team has scored 19 or more goals in a game while also holding their opponents under four goals.
How It Happened: Regis got things going early as they won the opening draw and cruised down the field to score the first goal of the game only 32 seconds into the first half. Freshman
Ali Vanek got the goal as redshirt-senior
Erin Todd picked up the assist on the play.
This set the tone for the Rangers as they scored 11 goals before UCCS netted their first of the game more than 25 minutes into the first half. Vanek had three goals before halftime with senior
Anna Takushi and sophomore
Wendy Donier adding two of her own before the break. Junior
Erin Steiner was dominant in the middle as her four draw controls helped RU win and keep possession for most the first half.
Todd netted a goal in the first three minutes of the second half, and the Mountain Lions responded with one of their own, but that was the last goal they would score as Todd netted another goal to give the visitors a 15-3 lead with 20 minutes to go.
Takushi scored her third goal of the game, and Donier added two in the second half to help bolster the offensive charge from Regis. Sophomore
Sarah Myres scored the 17
th goal of the game, and freshman
Andrea Macalalad put her only goal of the game in the net for the 19
th and final goal of the game.
Senior
Kenley Harrington (W, 3-0) picked up the win as she spent one half in between the pipes making two saves and allowing two goals. Freshman
Court Huston played the second half making one save and allowing one goal.
Game Notes: Donier led the way with four goals on the day, her highest output of the season thus far, adding two assists for a game-high six points. Todd, Vanek and Takushi each finished the game with three goals apiece. Defensively, eight players had caused turnovers for the Rangers with junior
Jada Bonner tallying for to lead both teams. RU once again held a major advantage in the shots department as they took 33 and limited UCCS to only eight. 28 of Regis' shots were on target, and they won the draw control battle 18-5.
Next Up for the Rangers: The No. 17 ranked women's lacrosse team will head to Durango, Colorado to face the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks tomorrow at noon.
