Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Career days from Bonner and Harrington propel No. 17 Rangers

DURANGO, Colo. – The No. 17 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (8-0, 4-0 RMAC) won their eighth-straight game dating back to the beginning of the season, beating the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (2-4, 2-1 RMAC) 16-8 in a non-conference matchup between the two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) members.

This is the longest win streak for the program since the 2014 season in which the team won nine-straight to finish out the season as RMAC Champions. Sophomore Wendy Donier led the way scoring five goals, adding one assist, for a game-high six points. Two freshman in Ali Vanek and Andrea Macalalad chipped in with three goals apiece.

How It Happened: Regis, and sophomore Wendy Donier, opened the scoring two minutes into the half as the sophomore took a pass from junior Jada Bonner and slotted her shot past the goalkeeper for the first goal of the game.

Junior Rachael Walker, Bonner, and senior Erin Steiner each netted a goal early on to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead at the 24:23 mark, but Fort Lewis responded with their first goal of the game two minutes later to bring the game to 4-1.

By halftime, Donier had netted four goals on four shots, and four players had one assist each as Regis was sharing the ball early, helping to a 9-3 lead.

Sophomore Sarah Myers kicked off the second half with a goal less than two minutes after the whistle blew to start the half. From that point, the Rangers lead ballooned to as many as ten goals, 15-5, by the midway point in the half.

The Skyhawks scored three unanswered goals from the 8:12 mark until there was eight seconds left in the game. Freshman Ali Vanek sealed the deal with one second on the clock, scoring her third goal of the game, helping RU their eighth-straight win of the season by a score of 16-8.

Senior Kenley Harrington (W, 4-0) spent all 60 minutes in between the pipes, setting a new career-high for saves (12) on a day that she saw a season-high 26 shots.

Game Notes: Donier led the way with five goals on the day, a season-high for the attacker this year. Vanek added three goals and Macalalad scored a season-high three goals, scooping up a season-best two ground balls and earning two draw controls. One of the biggest stats of the game is that Bonner tallied eight caused turnovers in the game tying the second most in a single game for the program's history. Bonner also had nine ground ball pick-ups which ranks tied for ninth in Regis' single-game history, adding four draw controls, one goal, and one assist. The Rangers narrowly outshot FLC 28-26 putting 21 of their attempts on goal. RU was a perfect 16-16 in clear attempts, demonstrating how efficient and solid their rides were, while also winning the draw control battle 14-12 on the day.

Next Up for the Rangers: The No. 17 ranked women's lacrosse team will have two weeks to prepare for their upcoming road trip in Florida when they are tasked to take on the No. 11 ranked Florida Institute of Technology on Friday, April 7 and Saint Leo University on Saturday April 8.
