Box Score 2 GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University softball team split in the first day of action against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (8-4, 5-1 RMAC) that featured a pair of low-scoring games from the cross-town rivals.
Emily John paced the Rangers throughout the day going 3-of-7 from the plate recording two singles and a double. John also scored one run and was left on base once.
How It Happened | Game 1: John started things off with a lead-off double to right field and was brought across the plate by a
Carlie Sexton single up the middle to give RU an early 1-0 lead.
Logan Losh retired the Orediggers in order in the bottom half of the inning while continuing to hold the home team scoreless until their final at bat.
On a full count with no outs,
Delaney McGinn sent one over the left field fence to bring
Macy Cox around, who was pinch running for Ca. Sexton, who reached on a walk. The offensive momentum slowed down for the Rangers at the plate in fourth and fifth innings.
Colorado Mines put runners on second and third with just one out in the bottom of the seventh. The Orediggers put one on the board with a single late in the game but could not mount any more of a comeback as
Bradey King recorded the assist on the final putout of the game.
Game Notes: Losh earned her 12
th start of the season pitching through all seven innings to record her 10
th complete game thus far. Losh notched her ninth win of the season tallying seven strikeouts on 31 batters faced. John led the Rangers offensively going 3-for-4 and scoring one run as the designated player. Regis was slightly outhit 9-8 but forced the Orediggers to leave nine runners stranded. McGinn,
Alyssa Finger and
Breana Pearsall each had a stolen base.
How It Happened | Game 2: Both teams experienced a slow start on the offensive side of the ball as Colorado Mines tallied a hit in the bottom of the first. The Rangers did not record their first hit until the fourth inning on a double from King. King advanced to third on a fly out by Ca. Sexton but would ultimately be left stranded as the score remained locked at 0-0.
The Orediggers notched a pair of doubles in the bottom of the fourth, the second of which broke the silence putting the home team on the board 1-0. Singles from Finger and
Leah Gordon came in the top of the fifth with no runners on base.
Colorado Mines padded the lead in the bottom of the sixth bringing the RU deficit to 3-0. With time running out,
Melissa Heronema made a last ditch effort in the top of the seventh with a single to centerfield. Regis could not gain any sort of offensive momentum finishing the day on a split.
Game Notes: The Orediggers outhit the Rangers 8-3.
Taylor Armitage pitched in 5.2 innings moving to an overall mark of 3-7 while tallying two strikeouts. Gordon led Regis offensively going 1-for-2 at the plate. This is just the second time RU has been held scoreless thus far this season.
