Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 15 Rangers power past Golden Bears 21-3

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 15 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (10-1, 4-0 RMAC) beat the Concordia University St. Paul Golden Bears (8-6) 21-3 on Wednesday afternoon with a complete team effort.
 
Sophomore Sarah Myres set a career-high in assists with five as redshirt-senior Erin Todd, sophomore Wendy Donier and freshman Andrea Macalalad combined to score 10 goals in the huge win.
 
How It Happened: Regis enjoyed a 5-0 scoring run to start the game which helped dictate the way the rest of the game was played. Five different players scored goal during the run with Myres handing out two of her assists and adding one goal in the first seven minutes of the game.
 
CSP got on the board with their first goal with 20:13 on the clock, but the Rangers quickly responded with three goals of their own with goals coming from senior Erin Steiner (2) and Macalalad. Freshman Ali Vanek picked up two assists and Myres added the other as RU jumped out to an 8-1 lead.
 
The Golden Bears managed to score two more goals in the first half with Regis netting their 14th of the game at the halftime buzzer. Todd sent her shot right past the goalkeeper as time expired and the Rangers headed into halftime with a 14-3 lead.
 
RU's defensive effort picked up in the second half as they held their opponents to only three shots in the half, without conceding a single goal. Freshman Cire Brock was the only Regis player to record more than one goal in the second half, but five other players had at least one goal in the half that saw the home squad dominate 7-0. The final score was 21-3 in favor of the Rangers who found themselves in control for the entire match.
 
Game Notes: Myres led the team with seven points on the day, netting two goals and collecting her career-high five assists. Todd finished the game with four goals on four shots and junior Rachael Walker chipped in with four assists and one goal with two ground balls and two draw controls. Donier was a beast in the middle as she tracked down a game-high six draw controls on the day. RU outshot CSP 36-7, won the draw control battle 16-8, dwarfed the Golden Bears 22-12 in the ground ball category. Regis also limited their own turnovers to 13, while forcing CSP into 24.
 
Next Up for the Rangers: The No. 15 ranked women's lacrosse team will return to their home field tomorrow for a battle with the Westminster College Griffins (6-3, 4-2 RMAC) at 4 p.m. The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (10-2, 5-1 RMAC) will pay a visit to the Regis Lacrosse Field at 1 p.m. for a battle between the second and third ranked teams in the conference.
