ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 15 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (13-1, 7-0 RMAC) rolled the Adams State University Grizzlies (2-11, 1-7 RMAC) 15-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
How It Happened: Within the first ten minutes of the game, Regis built a comfortable 5-0 lead over Adams State on their home field. The Grizzlies got on the board with their first goal of the game at the 17:10 mark of the first half bringing the score to 5-1 in favor of the Rangers.
At the end of the first half, RU enjoyed a 10-1 lead with seven players already registering goals. From the get-go, Regis was determined to put the game away early. Having beat ASU 19-2 earlier in the year, the Rangers wanted to match and improve on that effort this time around. The first half showed that the team was on track to do just that with a nine-goal lead.
The second half was a bit less exciting as the RU offense seemed to slow down a little bit. Regis scored five goals in the second half compared to ten in the first, but the defense was every bit as impenetrable as it was in the opening minutes.
Sophomore
Grace Rosenthal helped the Rangers offensively in the second half as she skillfully found her way to the front of the net and blasted a shot past the Grizzlies keeper for her second goal of the game and the team's 12
th. Freshman
Ali Vanek and junior
Rachael Walker capped off an impressive 9-0 run from the visitors that spanned the final 16 minutes of the first half through the first 17 of the second half for a total of 33 minutes of incredible success on offense as well as defense.
ASU got their second goal of the game with 12:15 left in the second half, but it was the last goals they would score for the rest of regulation. Freshman
Cire Brock netted a goal with seven minutes to go in the game that proved to be the final scoring play for either team. RU came away with dominating 15-2 win over the Grizzlies when the final horn sounded.
Freshman
Court Huston (W, 3-0) earned her third win of the season spending the entire first half between the pipes, making one save and allowing only one goal.
Game Notes: Sophomore
Wendy Donier was a nightmare for Adams State scoring three goals and handing out three assists on the day. Donier only needed three shots to score her three goals, but she also scooped up a team-leading six ground balls on the day showing that she is just as valuable on defense as she is on offense. Rosenthal, Walker, sophomore
Sarah Myres and senior
Anna Takushi all netted two goals each on a day that saw Regis outshoot their opponents 29-5. The Rangers committed only nine turnovers in the game, but forced 20 from the Grizzlies. RU won the ground ball battle 21-6 as well as the draw control category by a narrow margin of 10-9.
Next Up for the Rangers: The No. 15 ranked women's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday, April 22 for their final home regular season game of the year. The Fort Lewis College Skyhawks will make the trip to Denver for a game that has been scheduled for noon. The final two games of the regular season will be road games for the women's lacrosse team as they travel to the home of No. 2 ranked Lindenwood University (12-0, 6-0 RMAC) on April 28 for their toughest matchup of the season. The regular season finale will be an April 30 battle with the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves (3-8, 2-5 RMAC) at 1 p.m. in Pueblo, Colo.
