DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (24-11, 17-7 RMAC) improved to 4-1 this season against the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners (15-18, 11-12 RMAC) after winning 13-5 on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened: Regis put five runs on the board in the top of the first, three more in the second and two in the third to go up 10-2 after three innings of play. Redshirt-sophomore

Chris Kobar connected on a bases clearing double and redshirt-senior
Geordy Smith had a two-RBI double all before MSU Denver came to bat in the bottom of the second.
Senior
Josh Newell sent a two-run blast over the right-center field fence helping to put the Rangers ahead 10-1in the top of the third. The Roadrunners got a run in the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 10-4 but RU got those runs back in the top of the seventh and kept a 12-4 lead all the way until ninth when Newell struck again.
Newell crushed another home run, this time of the solo variety, in the top of the ninth to give the visitors another insurance run. Junior
Patrick Kenny came on in the bottom of the ninth, giving up one run before closing out the game by a score of 13-5.

Chris Quackenbush (W, 4-2) hurled his way to his fourth win of 2017 going six innings, scattering seven hits, and allowing four earned runs. The righty walked three but also struck out three on the day. Senior
Nick DiPaola got some work in throwing two innings of shutout baseball by allowing only two hits. Newell (5-6, 2 HR, 4 RBI) was an absolute monster at the plate matching a career-high with five hits, and setting a new career-high for home runs (2) in a single game. Junior
Andrew Bryniarski (RBI, 2 R) collected three hits in six trips to the plate while four others registered at least two hits in the game. As a team, Regis recorded 19 hits to 11 for MSU Denver, they stole three bases and committed only one error.
Next Up for the Rangers: The Regis University baseball team will host a very important series with the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (26-8, 18-2 RMAC) who currently sit at the top of the conference, right in front of the Rangers. First pitch is scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader set for Friday at noon and 3 p.m. and the series finale on Saturday at noon.
