GOLDEN, Colo. – The Rangers fell a few runs short in an offensive battle against Colorado Mines. The Orediggers earn the series victory after winning all four games.
How It Happened: Regis struck first adding two runs in the first inning.
Garrett Skillings hit a solo homerun in his first at bat of the day followed by
Logan Heflebower scoring
Andrew Bryniarski on a double.
Mines added three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to steal the lead early. RU was unable to respond in the second inning leaving one stranded on base while the Orediggers added one more run to stretch the lead to 4-2.
Bryniarski crossed the plate for the second time of the game as he stole home. He was the solo run of the third inning for Regis. Mines responded with a three-run homerun to hang on to the lead, 7-3, after three innings of play.
Regis didn't score again until the top of the fifth. Skillings placed his second homerun of the day scoring two and narrowing the deficit to 11-5. The Rangers added a runs in the sixth inning scoring five on four hits.
Josh Newell recorded the first hit followed by yet another homerun from Skillings, scoring three.
Heflebower and
Christian Bitar accounted for the other two hits of the inning. RU pulled within two runs only for the Orediggers to add two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth and lead the offensive battle, 14-10.
Mines was the only team to score in the seventh adding just one.The Rangers pulled within three runs in the eighth inning. Heflebower,
Kennedy Phillips,
Zach Dedin and
Max Fabricant all had hits.
The Orediggers tallied their final runs in the bottom of the eighth adding two. Regis made their final stance in the top of the ninth scoring two runs but falling short, 17-14.
Game Notes: Skillings had three homeruns on the day with five RBIs, scoring three runs himself in five at bats. Heflebower had five hits including one homerun and batted in three.
Chris Quackenbush recorded the loss in 3.1 innings pitched.
Adam Montano saw action in 2.2 innings and threw four strikeouts.
Next Up for the Rangers: Regis will play next in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, May 10.
