Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regis earns second-straight shutout in 4-0 win

DENVER, Colo. – The shutout streak moves to two straight games as the Regis University men's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over the California State University – Monterey Bay Otters on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened: Redshirt-freshman Will Eslinger had the best game of his short career at Regis, netting three goals, with two coming in the first half. Eslinger and the Rangers got on the board in the 28th minute as junior Noah Chapleski made a pass to the far side of the box where Eslinger was waiting to bend the goal past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

A few minutes later, it was freshman Caleb Larson delivering a ball to Eslinger in the box for a header to put RU ahead by two goals. Regis outshot the Otters 13-4 in the first half before the teams broke for halftime.

Eslinger and his teammates were back at it as freshman John Halter pushed a pass up the field to Eslinger who gathered the ball and rifled the ball into the back of the net from almost 35 yards out to complete his hat-trick.

From that point on the Rangers controlled the pace of the game as they dominated possession. After working the ball around the back of the formation, senior Jacob Lever unleashed a beautiful ball into the attacking zone where Chapleski was waiting to gather himself and slot the ball past the keeper for the team's fourth goal of the match.

Game Notes: Eslinger records his first hat-trick of the season with his first three goals of the year. He took a team-high five shots on the day, putting four of them on goal. Sophomore Chapleski finished his day with one goal and one assist while Lever, Halter and Larson each tallied one assist in the match. The final shot count was 22-10 in favor of the home squad, who also managed to earn eight corner kicks to two for their opponents. Senior goalkeeper Ciaran Gibson faced 10 total shots and made three saves for his first shutout of the season.

Up Next for the Rangers: The men's soccer team will open up conference play with a four-game roadtrip spanning the next two weekends. The first two stops will include matches against Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, September 15 followed by a highly anticipated game scheduled against Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. two days later.
