Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regis drops 2-0 on the road to UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (3-2, 1-2 RMAC) went head-to-head with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (2-4-1, 2-0-1 RMAC) on Friday night dropping 2-0 to the Mountain Lions.

How It Happened: The first 45 minutes of the game ended in a stalemate as both teams looked to get out and draw first blood. Regis blasted twice as many shots as the home team in the first half 8-4, but neither capitalized on any of their opportunities.

The second half saw the Rangers ramp up their offensive attack blasting nine shots in the first 21 minutes of the second half. Despite RU's offensive dominance, the Mountain Lions broke the 0-0 deadlock with a goal in the 68th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Regis once again responded with an offensive charge but could not find a crease in the UCCS defense. In the 87th minute the Mountain Lions were awarded a penalty kick that they converted to take a 2-0 lead that essentially sealed the game. The clocked ticked down and the Rangers walked away with the loss despite dominating on the offensive end.

Game Notes: The final shot count finished 22-9 in favor of Regis but the home squad managed to put more shots on goal 6-5. The Rangers took eight corners while withholding UCCS to zero in the game. Four yellow cards were handed out to RU with the Mountain Lions receiving two. Senior Jacob Lever led the way for Regis with six shots, putting three of the team's five shots on goal. Sophomore Oliver Haines followed closely behind with four shots, but failed to put any of them on goal.

Up Next for the Rangers: The men's soccer team will finish their four-game road trip with a match against the Colorado State University – Pueblo ThunderWolves on Sunday, September 24 at 2:30 p.m. The team will then return home for a three-game home stand that features matches against cross-town rival Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday, September 29 followed by two conference contests against the Colorado Christian University Cougars and the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers.
