ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Regis University men's soccer team (7-3-2, 6-2-2 RMAC) collected their second shutout against Adams State University this season (0-10-2, 0-6-2 RMAC), muzzling the Grizzlies 2-0 this afternoon in Alamosa, Colorado. This marks RU's sixth shutout in 2018.
How it Happened: The Rangers endured a chippy first half of action as ASU tallied six fouls in the first 45 minutes. Adams State's aggressiveness did little to aggravate Regis, however, as
Eric Peter put the Rangers on the board in the 19th minute of play. After a pair of unsuccessful shots from RU,
Jake Brown located Peter inside the box and hoisted a pass that gave him the perfect opportunity to head the ball to the back of the Grizzlies' net and give Regis the 1-0 lead.
Regis allowed nine shots in the first period, two of which on goal, but as the teams broke for halftime, the advantage remained with the visitors.
Nico Denton continued to build the Rangers' edge in the second half, assisted by
Freddie Swales. At the 56:33 minute mark, Swales launched a cross from midfield to Denton who stood 15 yards out and without hesitation drove the ball home to put RU up 2-0.
The Rangers made it a point to stifle any offense that Adams State generated from then on, conceding just three shots before capping the 2-0 shutout victory.
Games Notes: Both Peter and Denton's goals were first of their collegiate careers at Regis. Swales notched his third assist of the season while Brown recorded his first assist this year. In frame for RU,
Chase Webert made five saves. As a team, the Rangers narrowly placed more shots on goal with six as the Grizzlies tallied five of their own. Adams State would finish with one more shot than Regis, registering 14 while Regis led in corners with five against ASU's four. Adams State finished the game with 16 fouls compared to Regis' seven.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis continues their road stint as they travel to Pueblo, Colorado for a 3:00 PM matchup with Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sunday afternoon.
