Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rangers Drop Game to Metropolitan State University of Denver

DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University men's soccer team (8-4-2, 7-2-2 RMAC) suffered their fourth loss of the season this afternoon as they fell 5-0 to Metropolitan State University of Denver (8-7, 7-4 RMAC) on the Regis Match Pitch.

How it Happened: Pitted against the fourth ranked team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Rangers came out looking to dominate as they kept the Roadrunners vying for offensive possession through the first 15 minutes. However, things did not fall in Regis' favor as they conceded the first of five goals in the 16th minute, effectively shifting any momentum from the host team and setting the tone for the remainder of the match.

The Roadrunners extended their lead 2-0 at the 35:53 minute mark, booting a through ball up the middle to find an open striker who sent it home. The Rangers closed off the first period with a pair of shots and a corner but continued to struggle to find the back of the net.

The second half read the same script for RU who looked to find rhythm on both the offensive and defensive ends but consistently came up unlucky. At the 52:04 mark, MSU-Denver stretched their advantage to 3-0 and after 60 minutes of play it had grown to 4-0. The Roadrunners shot down any lingering hopes the Rangers had of making a comeback as they buried a penalty kick thirty seconds later to seal the game 5-0.

Game Notes: Both Regis and the Roadrunners tallied 12 shots in the contest, but MSU-Denver came out on top with five goals on five shots on goal. The Rangers recorded four shots on goal in addition to six corners which doubled the Roadrunners. Ollie Haines paced RU with two shots on goal while Ryan Ebert and Parker Klein both notched one apiece.

Up Next for the Rangers: The Rangers return to the Regis Match Pitch on Sunday, October 21 for a 1:00 PM contest with Colorado Christian University.
