Box Score DENVER, Colo. - A trio of Rangers led the Regis University women's basketball team to a 66-49 victory this afternoon as
Jaz'Myne Snipes,
Majestie Robinson and
Alex Nelson all recorded double-digit scoring against Texas A&M International University at the Regis Fieldhouse.
How it Happened: Without a win on their resume, the Dustdevils were eager for a victory, holding the Rangers to just four points with as many turnovers through the first six minutes of play.
Jaz'Myne Snipes refocused Regis as she pulled up from behind the 3-point arc for a made basket to kick-start a 17-0 run that extended into the second quarter and saw five different Rangers score.
Behind buckets from
Majestie Robinson and
Elly Walters, RU continued to cement their lead, taking a 34-23 advantage. Walters and Nelson capped the second quarter with back-to-back old-fashioned three-point plays that put RU up by their largest lead of the half at 41-25.
Coming out of the break, Regis and the Dustdevils spent the third period trading baskets. TAMIU fought to pull themselves within 13 points but a Snipes layup followed by a Robinson trey kept the visitors at bay.
Texas A&M International University went on to outscore the Rangers 10-9 in the final quarter but fell short of achieving the comeback they would have needed to earn the win. Regis now moves to 4-1 with the 66-49 victory.
Game Notes: Pacing Regis was Snipes, totaling 19 points, shooting 6-10 from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. Robinson added 17 points, a team-high three assists, and a pair of steals while Nelson notched 16 points and seven rebounds. Pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds was
Whitney Jacob.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis commences Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on December 1 as they travel to Lakewood, Colorado to take on Colorado Christian University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
