Box Score 2 AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 23 ranked Regis University baseball team (8-3) dropped two straight games to St. Edwards University (7-5) on Saturday.

How It Happened| Game 1: Regis started the game with two singles in the first inning but a Hilltopper double-play prevented the Rangers from getting any runners across the plate. RU conceded the first runs of the game, giving up three runs in back-to-back innings to fall behind 6-0.

Regis did not post another hit after an infield single by sophomore
Coby Zimmerman in the top of the third. The Hilltoppers were able to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 7-0 victory.

Chris Kobar and junior
Connor Rochon were the only Rangers to record a hit in game one. Neither team committed an error, but the Hilltoppers out-hit RU 10-3 on their way to seven earned runs.

Senior
Noah Gotsis (1-1) took the loss on the mound after pitching 3.1 innings and giving up six runs on eight hits. Gotsis struck out one batter.

How It Happened | Game 2: Senior
Garrett Skillings reached base on a walk to lead-off the top half of the second inning and senior
Zach Dedin was able to advance him to second base on a single to right field. Junior
Logan Heflebower made it safely to first base on a fielding error by the Hilltoppers' first-baseman. With zero outs and the bases loaded, sophomore
Kennedy Phillips hit an RBI SAC fly to centerfield, scoring Skillings to take a 1-0 lead.

Regis had bases loaded and an opportunity to add to their 1-0 lead in the fourth inning but left all three runners on base. The Hilltoppers tied the game at one with a solo shot to left field in the bottom half of the fourth. The Rangers surrendered their lead the very next inning with the Hilltoppers opening the fifth with four straight hits followed by an RBI SAC fly to take a 4-1 advantage.Â

RU showed hope to recover from their deficit in the seventh inning. Sophomore
Ryan Tierney led-off with a single to left field and freshman
Marcus Salvato laid down a successful bunt to put two Regis runners on base. With two outs, Skillings put a ball in play to right-center, scoring Tierney to close the gap to 4-2, but Salvato was tagged out at home-plate for the final out of the game.

St. Edward's tacked on their final two runs of the game placing a triple in right field. Regis followed going three up three down.

Kobar singled to left field to give the Rangers hope in the bottom of the ninth but two outs followed back-to-back to end the game in a 6-2 loss.

Game Notes | Game 2: RU had seven hits in the outing with Dedin accounting for two. Skillings and
Kennedy Phillips were each responsible for an RBI. Regis had zero errors.
Chris Isbell threw 4.1 innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits and had five strikeouts.
