ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team improved to 13-7 and 5-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a series sweep over Adams State University (0-17, 0-4 RMAC). Regis took game four 19-4 on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened: Senior
Andrew Bryniarski was the first Ranger to reach base, doing so on via a walk. A homerun by junior
Connor Rochon scored Bryniarski and himself, giving RU a 2-0 first inning lead.
Regis never looked back as they continued to add to their lead. Freshman
Andy Beyene walked to begin the second inning. He came around to score the Rangers third run on a double down the left-field line by sophomore
Coby Zimmerman.
RU added five runs to their total score on four hits in the third inning. Rochon, the first batter in the third inning, was hit by a pitch. He moved to third base on a double down the left-field line by senior
Garrett Skillings. Senior
Chris Kobar also hit a shot down the left-field line, good enough for an RBI-single that saw Skillings reach third base. With runners on the corners, sophomore
Ryan Tierney doubled up the middle, scoring Rochon and moving Skillings to third base.
Junior
Logan Heflebower cleared the bases with a three-run homerun, stretching the Regis lead to 8-0.
The Rangers added four more runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth. The Grizzlies got on the board with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth but were still down by nine, 14-3.
Four runs in the top of the seventh gave RU their largest lead of the game, 18-3. A three-run shot by Skillings capped off the inning. Each team added one more run, closing the game 19-4 in favor of Regis.
Game Notes: Five Rangers recorded multiple hits and three hit a homerun. Heflebower (2-4, 4 RBI, 1 HR) led RU with four RBI's. Skillings (2-4, 3 RBI, 1 HR, 1 2B) and Rochon (1-5, 2 RBI, 1 HR) were the other two with homeruns. Bryniarski (2-5), Kobar (2-4, 1 RBI, 1 2B) and Tierney (3-6, 2 RBI, 2 2B) accounted for seven of the 16 Regis hits.
The Rangers were able to hold the Grizzlies to just four runs on 12 hits by committing just one error, causing Adams State to leave 10 runners on base.
Junior
Chris Isbell (1-1) earned his first win of the season. He allowed nine hits but just three runs in six total innings of work. Isbell struck-out three of the 26 batters he faced.
Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis baseball team will return home on March 16 after three-straight away series. Their home series against Colorado Christian University will begin on March 16 with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
