DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Running Hall of Fame announced their 2018 Induction Class and Regis University Head Cross Country Coach
John Esquibel will be one of the honored inductees.
The Colorado Running Hall of Fame considers athletes, writers, race directors, volunteers, coaches, agents, officials, and others who have elevated the sport of running in the state through their dedication and accomplishments. The Hall of Fame is open to any individual, regardless of nationality, who has had significant achievements in running, while living in the state of Colorado. These achievements can include national and international accomplishments, as well as in state. The individuals must have lived in Colorado for at least 5 years. Athletes are considered to be eligible once retired or as their careers wind down. While athletic accomplishments bear weight during decision making, character and community service also considered.
Esquibel, and four others, will be inducted to the Colorado Running Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Denver Athletic Club. Esquibel ran collegiately for Adams State College, where he won National Championships in the mile run, holding the national record for two years. He went on to win four National Championships during his time at Adams State, was a seven-time All-American (2x- cross country, 3x- track and field). Esquivel also coached high school teams at Trinidad, Cherry Creek, Westminster and Ranum, winning four state championships. He has been the cross country coach at Regis University the past 13 years.
In 2015, Esquibel was inducted into the Adams State College Hall of Fame.
