DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (17-10, 9-6 RMAC) split with New Mexico Highlands University (8-19, 4-11 RMAC) on Saturday.
How It Happened | Game 1: It took three innings before either team got on the board, but it was Regis who managed to score first, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Three straight singles allowed the Rangers to score all three of their runs with two outs.
The Cowboys tied the game with two runs on four hits in the top of the fourth, but RU added one in the bottom half of the inning to regain their lead.
A SAC-bunt followed by a SAC-fly allowed junior
Logan Heflebower, who reached base on a walk, to score.
Regis was able to get two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 5-2 victory. RU retired the Cowboys 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Coby Zimmerman all followed with two hits. The Rangers out-hit NMHU 11-5.
Senior
Noah Gotsis (4-2) recorded his fourth win for RU after throwing four innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. He struck-out three of the 15 batters he faced.
How It Happened | Game 2: Regis scored three runs without recording a hit in the bottom of the first to take a quick 3-0 lead. Sophomore
Ryan Tierney drew a lead-off walk and came around to score the first run on a SAC-fly by junior
Connor Rochon. With runners on second and third, junior
Logan Heflebower reached on an error that allowed Bryniarski and Skillings to score.
The Cowboys responded with two runs on three hits in the top of the third to pull within one, 3-2. The Rangers went back up by two when senior
Chris Kobar hit a SAC-fly to second-base that scored freshman
Thomas Alexander who reached base on a double to left-field.
RU scored another run in the third to extend their lead to 4-2 before NMHU closed the gap back to one with a run in the fourth. Regis then added two runs in the fifth to stretch the score to what seemed to be a comfortable 7-3 lead.
The Cowboys went on to score 10 unanswered runs in the final two innings to secure a 13-7 victory. They managed a grandslam in the sixth and five runs on four hits and an error in the seventh.
Game Notes | Game 2: Bryniarski (2-3, 2 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR) was the only Ranger with multiple hits. RU collected just five total hits compared to the Cowboys 14.
Kobar and Bryniarski each accounted for six put-outs. Regis committed only one error while NMHU committed two.
Junior
Matt Heibult (2-2) was given the loss after pitching just one inning and allowing two runs on one hit. He retired one of the five batters he faced on strikes.
