Box Score 2 DENVER – Three home runs and a come-from-behind victory highlighted two two-run victories for the Regis University softball team over CSU-Pueblo on Saturday at Regis Softball Field.
The Rangers were victorious 7-5 in game one and 6-4 in game two to improve to 20-10 overall and 15-3 in RMAC play.
How It Happened | Game 1: Taylor Armitage made the most of a pinch hit appearance, crushing a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the sixth that helped the Rangers pick up a 7-5 victory.
Emily John homered twice for RU, which scored all of its runs on long balls in the opening game against the Thunderwolves.
John leadoff the game with a perfectly measured home run just over the centerfield fence. She later nailed a 2-run homer to deep right center to put the Rangers within a run in the fifth.
The Thunderwolves scored a run on an error in the sixth to expand their lead to 5-3 setting the stage for Armitage's heroics.
A walk and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for the Rangers with one out. Armitage was called off the bench and fouled off the first two pitches.
She squared up the next pitch and drove it well over the left center fence to put the Rangers ahead for good.
Logan Losh, the reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week, earned the win for the Rangers. She allowed four earned runs and nine hits, while striking out four.
Game Notes: John's multiple home run game was the first of her career. Both of Armitage's home runs this year have been pinch hits. Tori Brown, John and Losh each had two hits for the Rangers.
How It Happened | Game 2: Regis erased an early three-run deficit and Melissa Heronema had a career day in a 6-4 Regis win.
A three-run third inning helped Regis to a 5-3 lead after giving up three runs in the first inning. In that inning, the Rangers hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game at three and Brianna Benoit laced her only hit of the game past the pitcher to put RU up for good.
Regis tacked on its sixth run woth Heronema's homer to start off the fourth inning, which put RU up 6-3.
Lauren Hernandez also had two RBI for the Rangers, including a run-scoring double that started off the scoring in the third inning.Â
CSU-Pueblo threatened in the top of the seventh after putting the tying run on base. Armitage snagged a line drive off the bat of K'Lee Kent and fired to second base to double up the Thunderwolves' runner to end the game.
Armitage went seven innings and struck out five as she picked up her eighth win of the season.
Game Notes: Eight Rangers had at least one hit. The victory ensures at least a four-game series split against CSU-Pueblo.Â
