GREELEY, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (18-11, 10-6 RMAC) was put to the test when they took on an NCAA Division I opponent in a nonconference game on Tuesday afternoon. The University of Northern Colorado (16-10, 1-2 WAC) outscored Regis 35-11.
How It Happened: Freshman
Marcus Salvato led-off the first inning with a walk and advanced to third on a passed-ball followed by a wild-pitch. A second wild-pitch allowed him to cross home-plate, giving RU a 1-0 advantage.
UNC scored 13 runs on seven hits and seven walks in the bottom of the first to take a controlling 13-1 lead. The Bears were able to get 11 runs on a two-out rally.
Sophomore
Ryan Tierney provided a little life for Regis with a bases-loaded 3-RBI double to left field in the second inning. His hit brought the score to 13-4. The Rangers closed the gap even more in the third inning, adding four runs on two hits and an error.
RU loaded the bases with a single by senior

Kennedy Phillips was hit by a pitch and junior
Mickey Meinhofer reached on an error by the third baseman. Freshman
Andy Beyene drew a walk that allowed one run to score and Salvato cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to center-field, bringing the score to 13-8.
Regis was unable to get another point on the board until the seventh inning. They surrendered 17 runs between the third and the sixth inning. The Bears took a demanding 30-8 lead with nine runs on six hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth.
Beyene launched his first-career homerun over the center-field wall after freshman
JJ Reeves walked. The homerun shot brought the score to 30-10.
Five runs in the bottom of the seventh stretched the UNC lead to 35-10. The Rangers added a single run in the top of the eighth inning on a SAC-fly by Phillips. RU held the Bears scoreless in the second and eighth inning.
Game Notes: Salvato (2-4, 3 RBIs, 1 2B), Tierney (2-4, 3 RBIs, 1 2B), and Bryniarski (2-4) lead RU with two hits each. Regis tallied 10 hits while allowing 29. Beyene cranked his first-career homerun.
The Rangers were plagued with three errors compared to just one for the Bears.
Nine different pitchers saw action on the mound for RU. Freshman
Colin King pitched the most of any pitcher (2.1 Innings). He allowed seven hits and four runs. Reeves and senior
Jake Griffith closed out the last 1.1 innings without allowing a single hit or run.
