GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (22-19, 14-13 RMAC) came up one run short, 4-3, against No. 6 Colorado Mesa University (25-12, 16-12 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened: CMU took a two-run lead in the bottom of the first inning on two hits and one error. Their second run was the result of a solo homerun.
Senior
Zach Dedin recorded the Rangers first hit of the game in the second inning. He stole second and made his way to third but was left stranded. RU scored their first run in the top of the third, thanks to an RBI-triple by junior
Connor Rochon.
Salvato reached base on a single up the middle and advanced to second on a passed ball. Salvato scored on Rochon's triple, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Mavericks.
CMU extended their lead back to two, 3-1, on their second solo homerun of the game. They scored another single run in the sixth inning on two hits, stretching their lead to three, 4-1.
Regis went three-up, three-down in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning, before adding two runs in the eighth. The Rangers rallied with two outs, beginning with a Rochon walk. Rochon stole second and made it to third on an error by the cather.
Senior
Garrett Skillings followed Rochon's walk with a double to left-center, scoring Rochon. Skillings came around to score on an RBI-single down the left-field line by Dedin. RU was retired 1-2-3 in the ninth inning, falling short 4-3.
Game Notes: Dedin was the only Regis batter to record multiple hits. He went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Rochon, Skillings, Salvato, and sophomore
Coby Zimmerman each recorded one hit. The Rangers were out-hit seven to six.
Junior
Mickey Meinhofer recorded a career-high 15 put-outs at first base.
Sophomore
Cobe Karhoff (2-4) was given the loss after pitching 5.3 innings and allowing three earned runs. He gave up six hits and struck0out three batters.
