DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Rangers (26-20, 18-14 RMAC) took game one, 8-0, defeating Colorado School of Mines (30-14, 23-11 RMAC) for the first time since 2014.
Game two ended 9-4 in favor of Colorado Mines.
How It Happened | Game 1: In his first game back from a hand injury, senior
Andrew Bryniarski led-off the second inning with a double to right-field. He came around to score the first run of the game on an RBI-single up the middle by sophomore
Coby Zimmerman.
Sophomore
Ryan Tierney laid down a successful SAC-bunt, bringing Zimmerman across home-plate and stretching the Rangers lead to 2-0.
RU added one run on two hits and an error in the third inning. Senior
Garrett Skillings reached base on a two-out error by the second baseman. Back-to-back singles by Bryniarski and senior
Zach Dedin allowed Skillings to make his way home, scoring the lone run of the inning for Regis.
Senior
Brad Thoutt retired 12-straight batters, with six strikeouts, between the second and the sixth inning to hold the Orediggers scoreless.
The Rangers extended their lead to 4-0 on a solo homerun by Zimmerman in the bottom of the sixth. Skillings hit a homer of his own in the seventh inning, bringing himself and Kobar home. Kobar reached base via a single to left-field to batters earlier.
RU snagged their last two runs off four hits in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Game Notes: Regis recorded their fifth shutout win of the season and their first win over Mines since 2014 with an 8-0 victory on Friday.
The Rangers, led by Zimmerman, outhit the Orediggers 12-4. Zimmerman (3-4, 2 RBI, 1 HR) recorded his fourth homerun of the season. He was the only Ranger with more than two hits. Brynairski (2-3, 1 2B) and junior
Logan Heflebower (2-3) each recorded two hits.
Thoutt (9-3) pitched eight complete innings, allowing zero and just three hits while striking out 10 batters.
How It Happened | Game 2: Mines got out to an early 5-0 lead with seven hits in the first inning. RU cut their deficit to four with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first.

Chris Kobar reached first base on an error as the led-off batter. Junior
Connor Rochon followed with a single through the right side, moving Kobar to second base. Dedin singled up the middle, loading the bases with just one out. Kobar advanced home, scoring the first Regis run on an RBI-groundout to first base by
Zimmerman.
The score remained 5-1 until the Orediggers added four runs on three hits in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers pulled within five after Zimmerman sent a three-run shot over the left-field wall. His homerun scored Dedin and Skillings who reached base via a hit-by-pitch and a single, respectively.
Game Notes:
The Orediggers outhit RU 12-7.
Senior
Noah Gotsis (6-4) was given the loss after pitching 5.2 innings, allowing nine runs on 12 hits while striking out three batters.
