DENVER, Colo. – The No. 2 seeded Regis University women's lacrosse team narrowly escaped, 11-10 in overtime, in what could have been a huge tournament upset from the No. 3 seeded Colorado Mesa University Mavericks. Regis found a way to score the game-winning golden-goal in the first overtime period of the semifinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

How It Happened: The Rangers and Mavericks put on one heck of a show for 61 minutes on Friday afternoon. After RU opened up a 3-2 nine minutes into the game, CMU countered with two-straight goals to take a 4-3 lead with 14:48 left in the first half. Later in the half, the No. 3 seeded Mavericks would add to their lead to 7-5. Juniors
Lauren Hurd Sarah Myres managed to score back-to-back goals before the first half ended, knotting the game at seven goals apiece at halftime.

Regis seemed as if they had figured things out as the RMAC Midfielder of the Year, senior
Jada Bonner, netted her 33
rd and 34
th goals of the season to start the period. This gave the Rangers their largest lead of the game, 9-7, with 22:09 left in regulation. However, CMU was relentless as they found the net twice in a row, tying the game at nine goals. Bonner responded with another goal, her third of the second half, to give the home squad a 10-9 advantage. The clock ticked below one minute to play, and the Rangers committed a turnover which allowed the Mavericks to scoop up the ground ball and transition into their offensive zone. CMU's Jessica Cook backed her way towards the net where she turned and rifled a shot that tied the game at 10 with 25 seconds remaining in the game. RU won the draw and cruised down the field only to have their shot saved right before the buzzer sounded.

The game moved into the first three-minute overtime period with the score tied at 10. Bonner fought for and won the critical draw control and the team set-up their offense. Bonner took a pass in the middle of the field, drove in and shot a ball that missed just high. RU retained possession, and on the very same look, Bonner drove in and was fouled, earning a free-position attempt. The senior lined up and as the whistle blew she took off and scorched her shot past the CMU goalkeeper, giving Regis the 11-10 golden-goal win.

Game Notes:  Bonner scored all four goals for the Rangers in the second half and overtime periods. She finished the game with a career-high six goals and seven points, causing two turnovers, winning three draw controls and grabbing one ground ball. Junior
Wendy Donier netted two goals in the game, while three others added one apiece. Hurd had a game-high four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Freshman
Elle Crawford (W, 10-3) was awarded the win as she recorded 11 saves as the netminder.

It was a tremendously close game as the shot totals went 30-25 in favor of RU. Regis also won the ground ball battle 26-16, but they continued to struggle in the circle losing the draw controls battle 15-8. The team won the most crucial draw control in the end, which allowed the team to come away victorious in the end.

Up Next for the Rangers: The women's lacrosse team will move on to the championship game where they will face No. 1 seed Lindenwood University on Sunday, May 6 at noon. The game will be played on the Regis Match Pitch and will feature a rematch from the 2017 RMAC Tournament Championship in which the Rangers came away with the 13-11 victory.
