DENVER, Colo. – The No. 2 seeded Regis University women's lacrosse team (15-4) lost to the No. 1 seeded Lindenwood University Lions (19-0) 19-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened: Lindenwood got on the board first, needing only 52 seconds to draw first blood. Freshman
Kyleigh Peoples responded with a goal a couple minutes later that tied the game at one. The visiting Lions opened up a three-goal lead with three-straight goals following the goal by Peoples.
Regis countered with a 3-0 run of their own to tie the game at four goals apiece. Both teams netted a goal in the final minute, and the score at halftime was deadlocked at five.
The second half opened with a goal from junior
Sarah Myres, but LU strung together another three goals in a row to recapture an 8-6 lead. After a goal from redshirt-junior
Sarah Lugo, the Lions gouged the Rangers defense with seven-straight goals to take a commanding 15-7 lead.
With their back against the wall, RU composed themselves and worked together to score three-straight goals. Myres, freshman

Lauren Hurd all netted a goal during the stretch. Two more goals from LU stopped Regis' momentum but Myres netted another goal with 10:04 on the clock to bring the deficit to six-goals, 11-17. The Rangers closed out the game on a 3-2 scoring run, but it was not enough to overtake the lead as the fell 14-19 to the Lions.
Game Notes: Overall, LU had advantages in shots (41-37), shots on goal (32-25), clears (14-16 to 13-16), and ground balls (29-17). Regis improved tremendously in the draw control circle, beating the Lions 18-17 in draw controls. Myres led the team with four goals and one assist, senior
Jada Bonner added three goals and one assist offensively. Defensively, freshman
Sarah Kate Dhom led the way with three caused turnovers, also grabbing three ground balls in the game. Bonner had a team-high four ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers and 11 draw controls. Sophomore
Andrea Macalalad chipped in with three ground balls as well.
In the crease, freshman
Elle Crawford (L, 10-4) registered 10 saves in 50:35 against one of the top-scoring teams in the nation. Sophomore
Court Huston made three saves in her 5:54 between the pipes and junior
Hope Correia saw 3:31 of action as the net minder.
Out of the last five RMAC Tournament Championships, Regis and Lindenwood have combined to win all of them with the Rangers winning two and Lions winning three.
