Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regis Drops Season Opener 2-1 to Saint Leo

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Regis University men's soccer team (0-1) made their season debut this afternoon traveling to Winter Park, Florida to take on Saint Leo University. Despite a momentous equalizing goal from redshirt-junior Ryan Ebert, the Rangers fell to the Lions 2-1.

How It Happened: Regis was held to limited scoring opportunities in the opening period, recording just two shots compared to the Lions' five. As the Rangers continued to struggle to find an offensive groove, Saint Leo drew first blood, netting the first goal of the contest in the 18th minute.

Less than five minutes later, RU awakened to retaliate with a goal of their own at the feet of Ebert. Ebert's 22nd-minute goal would be his only shot of the day, sending the game into a tie at the break.

After the half, Ollie Haines tried to take the lead for the Rangers with a pair of shots, ultimately falling short on the connection. The Lions went on to add to their advantage, registering a second goal in the 59th minute, to put them up 2-1.

Regis continued to press the Lions, garnering another pair of chances as Ethan Willson blasted the defense's uprights. However, his efforts were met with no success. As the final minutes ticked away, Porter Milner launched a last-shot corner kick, but again the Rangers were unable to convert, falling 2-1 in their season opener.

Game Notes: The final shot tally tilted 9-6 towards Saint Leo. It was a similar story in shots on goal as the Lions outpaced the Rangers 5-1 but the corner kick battle was a draw as both teams posted two apiece. Regis held a lopsided advantage in saves, collecting three compared to Saint Leo's zero. Ebert finished with the team's lone shot on goal while Haines and Willson both tallied two shots. In frame for the Rangers', Chase Webert made three saves.

Up Next for the Rangers: Continuing on with their non-conference preseason schedule, Regis will remain in Florida to face Rollins College on Saturday, September 1. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM.
