DENVER, Colo. – The No. 10 ranked Regis University volleyball team (4-3) tamed the Colorado Christian University Cougars (2-6) on the way to a 3-1 win in the first game of day two at Colorado Premier Challenge.
How It Happened:After being plagued with rough first sets on day one, Regis came out firing in the first set against the Cougars, scoring three quick points to start. The Rangers took a 10-4 lead a few minutes later but CCU responded with a run of their own to close the gap. Later on, three-straight CCU errors gave RU a 18-10 lead which forced the Cougars into a timeout. Not much changed as Regis went on to take the first set 25-15 behind four kills apiece from juniors
Nikki Kennedy and
Izzy Gosar.
Set two went in favor of CCU who managed to sneak away with a 25-19 win. The Rangers committed 13 errors on 44 attack attempts, leading to their second set blunder. RU rebounded in the third set with a 6-1 start. The Cougars ended up stealing the lead 20-19 late, but Regis' persistence paid off as they rallied for four-straight points, highlighted by kills from Gosar, Kennedy, and freshman
Rachel Siurek, to bring up set point. Final score of set three, 25-21 in favor of the Rangers.
Another hot start for the team allowed RU to take a quick 5-1 lead at the beginning of the fourth set. CCU called a timeout, but it was not enough to stop the Regis attack who built out a 13-6 lead a while later. The Cougars were relentless as they strung together five consecutive points to come within two of the Rangers, 13-11. Back-and-forth play brought it to match point 24-21 when junior setter sent a perfect pass to Gosar who unloaded on her match-winning kill. RU took the set 25-21, winning the match 3-1 overall.

Kelsey Green was the team-leader with 12 kills, picking up one block and two digs on the side. Kennedy and Gosar each tallied 11 kills as Kennedy recorded six blocks and a .364 hitting percentage. Sophomore

Sophie Griese (11) all registered double-digit digs while Basso accounted for 44 assists in the game.
