DENVER, Colo. – The No. 10 ranked Regis University volleyball team (4-4) finished the Colorado Premier Challenge with a second-place finish in the Bronze Bracket aftera 3-1 loss to the Texas A&M University – Commerce Lions (6-2) on Saturday evening.
How it Happened: Regis came out fast again in their second game of the day, taking a 4-1 lead after senior
Drew Rhamy cashed in two-straight service aces and sophomore
Caitlyn Burroway picked up a kill. Another long run towards the end of the match saw the Rangers jump out to a 21-14 lead with TAMUC stringing together four errors in a row. RU won the first set 25-20.
Despite hitting .256 in the second set of the match, Regis was met with a fierce Lions attack that hit .433 in the second set, squeaking by with a 25-22 win to even the match at one set apiece.
The third set was once again controlled by TAMUC as they took a 2-1 set lead with a 25-20 set three win. Both teams committed eight errors on the attack, but it was a .028 attack percentage that doomed the Rangers in set three.
The fourth set looked promising when RU had leads at 4-1 and then again at 6-2 but the Lions roared back to take a 10-8 lead before a Regis timeout was called. The deficit grew to 12-8 before the Rangers cut it back to two points at 12-10. With TAMUC holding a 23-18 lead, the RU clawed their way back into the game tying it up at 23 points apiece. A kill from the Lions and an attack error from Regis provided TAMUC a 25-23 set win and the 3-1 match victory.

Nikki Kennedy posted a team-high 16 kills and eight blocks with Burroway adding 15 kills and team-highs of 19 digs and a .333 attack percentage. Junior setter
Silvia Basso recorded 41 assists and four kills while senior libero
Kristina Schell had 16 digs and two assists. The team combined for a .170 attack percentage. Freshman
Rachel Siurek earned five kills and three blocks on the night, chipping in with three digs as well.
Up next for the Rangers: The No. 10 ranked volleyball team will return to the Regis Fieldhouse on September 7
th to host their first official home match of the 2018 season. Regis will match up with the Colorado School of Mines at 7 pm. The following night will feature a matchup with the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs at 5 pm in the Regis Fieldhouse.
