Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rangers' Battle with UCCS Ends in 1-1 Draw

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (1-2-1, 0-0-1 RMAC) opened up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action this evening with a double overtime 1-1 tie with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

How It Happened: The Ranger defense held solid throughout the first half of play as the Mountain Lions pelted RU's net with six shots and a pair of corners, five of which coming in the last seven minutes. Despite the lopsided offensive advantage that the host team owned, it was Regis that opened up the scoring first. It took just two shots before the Rangers converted on a Joe Mansfield header off a throw-in from Porter Milner in the 16th minute of action. Regis would hold on to their lead going into the half.

The Mountain Lions countered with a goal of their own at the 71:48-minute mark off a header that was pushed to the left side off the crossbar. The remainder of the game saw a change in momentum as the energy settled down and neither team was able to capitalize on their shots, forcing overtime.

In the first overtime, both teams were able to fire off two shots apiece, none of which found their way between the frame. While Regis out-shot the home team 4-1 in the second overtime, they again came up short, closing the game in a 1-1 tie.

Game Notes: UCCS narrowly out-shot the Rangers, recording 16 shots and two on goal compared to Regis' 14 shots and four on goal. The Mountain Lions also garnered twice as many corner kicks as RU, finishing with six. Chase Webert saw all 110 minutes in frame for the Rangers, collecting one save. Mansfield would notch the only goal for the Rangers, assisted by Milner, while Klein took four shots. John Halter followed with two shots, one on goal.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis returns to Denver for their home opener on Sunday, September 16th as they host South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at 1:00 PM.
