Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Quartet of Rangers Score in 4-0 Shutout over South Dakota Mines

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (2-2-1, 1-0-1 RMAC) dominated in their home opener against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) this afternoon, cruising to a 4-0 victory as four different Rangers found the back of the net.

How It Happened: Regis was quick to jump out to a 1-0 lead as Porter Milner earned a free kick in the 5th minute of action. From slightly outside the 18-yard line, Milner's strike grazed just above the keeper's hands in the upper right corner to put RU on the board first.

The hosts continued to harass South Dakota Mines' defense, firing off four shots and a corner before finally connecting again in the 19th minute at the foot of Parker Klein. Ethan Willson found Klein with a flawlessly placed cross that allowed Klein to redirect it to the bottom right of the frame.

Adding a third goal for the Rangers was Jake Brown at the 35:46 minute-mark, assisted by Freddie Swales. Swales pushed up a pass to Brown who dribbled through the Hardrocker defenders and cleanly placed the ball around the keeper.

RU's final goal came 17 seconds in the second period as Luca Kother pocketed a Hardrocker to finish one-on-one at the net. Regis continued to pester their visitors, taking eight more shots in the remainder of the game before the shutout was finally capped 4-0.

Game Notes: The Ranger backline was nearly impenetrable throughout the 90 minutes, holding the Hardrocker offense to just four shots and no corners. Regis on the other hand, garnered 21 shots, nine on goal, as well as four corners. Nick Moyer got the start in frame for the Rangers but had little work to do. Parker Klein paced RU with four shots, followed by Milner with three and Willson and Kother with two apiece.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis is back on the pitch Friday, September 21 as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on Westminster College.
