SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Regis University men's soccer team (2-3-1, 1-1-1 RMAC) suffered a 3-0 loss this afternoon to Westminster College (6-0-1, 2-0-1 RMAC) as part of their two-game road-trip out west this weekend.
How It Happened: The Griffins entered this contest taking an average of 14.83 shots per game, third best in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They held that standard as they hosted the Rangers, taking eight shots in the first period alone. The Regis backline was ready, however, holding steady as keeper
Nick Moyer collected three saves to keep the score knotted at 0-0 going into the half.
Westminster continued to pressure their guests, attempting seven more shots before their persistence finally paid off. In the 67th minute, the Griffins took the lead on a header from a corner kick. The Rangers managed to get off a shot and a corner before WC added a second goal to their advantage on a penalty kick buried in the left corner at the 71:50 minute-mark.
Regis threatened the host net several times as
John Halter fired off a pair of shots five minutes into the second period resulting in as many saves. In the 77th minute, Westminster added an insurance goal as the Griffins strung together a pair of passes to redirect the ball to the back of the net and cap the game 3-0.
Game Notes:The Rangers trailed Westminster by only five in the shots category, tallying 14 to their 19. Regis finished with five shots on goal, led by Halter with three while
Porter Milner and
Nico Denton both added one apiece. Moyer played all 90 minutes in frame for Regis, recording four saves on 18 shots faced.
