Third Quarter Surge Lifts Regis Over Grizzlies 68-44

DENVER, Colo. – A trio of Rangers recorded double-digits this afternoon in the Regis University women's basketball team's 68-44 victory over Adams State University (2-15, 2-11) at the Regis Fieldhouse. The Rangers now move to 10-8 on the season and 6-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

How it Happened: Six of the Rangers' eight first quarter points came at the charity stripe to total a 9-8 score at the end of ten minutes.

RU opened the second period with 12 unanswered points, seven of which from Whitney Jacob. The Grizzlies went on to post a 6-0 run themselves, closing the gap to five but a late Shelby Espinosa layup with over just a minute remaining kept the Rangers up 22-15.

A big third quarter helped propel Regis to a 44-23 advantage as they outscored ASU 22-8. Majestie Robinson and Nelson combined for two quick buckets to open the period and behind back-to-back baskets from Nelson, Regis towered over the Grizzlies 36-19 with 2:50 on the clock. McKenna Bishop and Robinson knocked down a pair of consecutive threes in the waning moments to further the blow.

In the final period's first minute, Nelson and Elly Walters dropped back-to-back threes, doubling the Ranger lead and opening the gate for an 8-2 scoring stretch. At the 2:39 minute-mark, Jacob knocked down her second trey of the game as Regis went on to win 68-44

Game Notes: Nelson and Jacob paced Regis with 16 points apiece, going 6-for-15 and 4-of-8 from the floor respectively. Jacob also pulled down 11 rebounds in addition to two assists and two steals. Robinson tallied 15 points and a team-high six assists while Espinosa grabbed 14 rebounds to compliment her seven points.

Regis shot 41.2% from the field and held the Grizzlies to 32.7%. The Rangers also out-rebounded ASU by a margin of 42-27, garnering 10 second chance points. A combined 35 turnovers were committed in the contest, RU finishing with 17, Adams State recording 18.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis takes to the road for next weekend's games, traveling to Grand Junction to take on Colorado Mesa University on Friday afternoon before taking on Western State Colorado University in Gunnison on Saturday night.
