DENVER – Senior midfielder
Porter Milner made the most of his final regular-season home game with the Regis University men's soccer team by both scoring and assisting in the Rangers' 5-1 win over Adams State at Regis Match Pitch on Sunday.
"I thought we were very good in the first half," said coach
Tony McCall. "I thought we got a little bit sloppy and took our foot off the gas in the second half. I thought
Porter Milner was outstanding throughout the day. With his goal and assist, it summed up his career at Regis, and for senior day, it was worthy.
Â
"And
Luca Kother was very solid at the back. Obviously, you want to see your seniors off on a positive, and I thought our seniors were able to close out their careers in a positive manner. It just summed up the careers that Luca and Porter had at Regis University."
Â
How It Happened: With a 1-0 lead, Regis expanded on it when junior midfielder
John Halter found sophomore forward
Kristian Hooker deep in Grizzlies territory. Hooker crossed the ball into the lower-left corner of the goalbox to put RU up, 2-0, with his eventual game-winner.
Â
Adams State cut the lead in half, 2-1, on senior midfielder Dylan Udero's successful penalty-kick goal to the lower-right corner in the 32nd minute of play.
Â
The Rangers were undeterred though and augmented their offensive aggression. The first of three straight goals occurred in the 36th minute when Milner located freshman forward
Pascal von Matthey, who directed the ball off his left foot into the upper-left corner for Regis' 3-1 advantage.
Â
With just seconds left in the first half, RU closed it out in thrilling fashion. Sophomore forward
Ethan Willson completed a pass to freshman forward
Anthony Priest, who then pounded the ball into the upper-right corner of the net to grow the Rangers' lead to 4-1.
Â
To cap off his Senior Day, Milner connected on his 83rd-minute penalty kick, which gave Regis a commanding 5-1 lead.
Â
RU started things off quickly when the ball kicked by sophomore midfielder
Ben Shepherd was perfectly deflected off the head of sophomore defender
Sam Gardner for a fast 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.
Â
The Rangers won the shots tally decisively by a 33-7 margin, which also included a 13-4 shots-on-goal count.
Â

Â
Milner, senior midfielder
Luca Kother (3 S, 1 SOG), redshirt senior forward
Ollie Haines and senior defender
Colton Hefty were all honored prior to the game's kickoff.
"Obviously, it's been a long season for Colton and Ollie, who have been unable to play this year but have been such an influence on our program over the past four years," McCall said.
Â
Up Next for the Rangers: The Rangers improve to an 8-5-1 record overall and a 7-3-0 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They begin their last road trip of the 2019 season against Colorado Christian (1-12-0, 1-9-0 RMAC) at Lakewood Memorial Field on Friday at 1 p.m.
