DENVER, Colo. – St. Edward's University (4-1) handed the Regis University baseball team (1-1) their first loss of the seven in a seven inning game on Sunday.
How It Happened: Senior
Connor Rochon doubled to right-field becoming the first Regis base-runner of the game. After junior
Coby Zimmerman drew a walk, senior
Logan Heflebower hit an RBI single to center field scoring Rochon and giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead. RU attempted to add to their lead with aggressive base-running, but Zimmerman was thrown out at home.
Regis quickly surrendered their lead as they gave up two runs on one hit in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the frame, the Rangers placed runners on first and second but were unable to bring any runs home.
Each team recorded a hit in the third inning but left the runners stranded sending the game into the fourth inning with the Hilltoppers on top 2-1. However, St. Edward's was able to add three runs to their lead after two hits, a walk and one error.
RU was able to cut their deficit to two, 5-3, after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman
Miguel Marquez followed a lead-off walk with an RBI triple, scoring sophomore
JJ Reeves. Marquez advanced home on an RBI single through the right side off the bat of junior
Ryan Tierney.
The Hilltoppers scored two runs in the top of the fifth to stretch their lead back to four, 7-3. Regis went scoreless in the fifth and sixth and managed to score one run in the seventh, eventually dropping game one 7-4.

Logan Heflebower and senior
Mickey Meinhofer both recorded two hits on four plate appearances. They were the only two Ranger batters with multiple base-knocks. RU tallied eight total hits while the Hilltoppers managed seven.
Rochon led the team defensively as he accounted for nine of the 21 put-outs. From second base, freshman
Julian Garcia-Schroeder had a team high three assists in his first collegiate start.
Freshman
Justin Kleinsorge (0-1) received the loss after allowing five runs on four hits throughout 3.1 innings of work. He dealt three strikeouts and three walks in his first career start.
*Game two resulted in a no contest due to insufficient innings played.
