Rangers Finish Series with Cowgirls in Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 DENVER, Colo. -  The Regis University softball team (4-4, 1-1 RMAC) ended their series with the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls (1-5, 1-1 RMAC) in a split, falling 1-0 in game one before bouncing back with an oppressive 11-0 victory in game two at the Regis Softball Field.

Game One | How it Happened: Regis opened up the afternoon struggling to swing the bats, recording just three hits in the contest.

After four silent innings from both teams, New Mexico Highlands finally broke the seal and tallied their solo run off a deep single to left field. The Rangers threated in the bottom of the sixth as Alyssa Martinez drilled a double to the left side but the Rangers were unable to convert and suffered the 1-0 loss.

Games Notes: Martinez paced Regis with two hits, including a double, and two stolen bases. Analece Apodaca finished with a team-leading six putouts while Tori Brown collected four assists.

In the circle, Taylor Armitage allowed one run on five hits with one walked batter and three strikeouts.

Game Two | How it Happened: The Rangers came out as a renewed team in game two, taking the Cowgirls by a score of 11-0.

RU earned 10 of those runs in the first inning alone, starting with a Martinez double that drove home Kynra Nelson. Apodaca followed with a double to left field, scoring Martinez before Laura Scheffel ripped a single to the infield and brought around Apodaca. Armitage and Carly Beard would both take a base on balls with bases loaded to score Tori Brown and Morgan Stradley and make the score 5-0.

Madison Flores continued the scoring stretch with a RBI-single to left, sending home Scheffel while Nelson followed with a hard hit ball that brought around Armitage. Apodaca capped the inning with a 3-run dinger over the left field fence to light up the scoreboard with a crushing 10-nil score.

Michelle Larose drove home the insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on a triple that made its way to left center and sent Stradley making her way home. Regis was able to hold off the Cowgirls in the final half inning to capture the 11-0 win.

Game Notes: Maisie Mortimer earned the victory in game two, giving up just three hits and no runs through five innings of work. Mortimer collected two strikeouts in 16 at-bats.

Apodaca finished with two runs on two hits, including a homerun and a double, which brought in a total of four RBIs. Nelson followed with two runs, two hits and one RBI while Stradley chimed in two runs on one hit.

Flores recorded a game-high four assists as Shelby Shepherd amassed five putouts.

Game Three | How it Happened: Due to darkness, the end result of game three is still under further review and we are awaiting a determination of the outcome. Details will be forthcoming.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis heads out to Spearfish, South Dakota this weekend as they take on Black Hills State University and Colorado State University-Pueblo in double-header action on Saturday, March 2. First pitch is set for 10AM. They continue the weekend with a second double-header on Sunday beginning at 12PM.
