DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (4-8) handed Wayne State College (6-2) their second loss of the season, 4-2, before falling 5-2 in game two. Junior
Coby Zimmerman hit the scoreboard in left field with a two-run home run to secure game one.
How It Happened | Game 1: The Rangers never looked back after opening the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Senior

Kennedy Phillips hit a double to center-field. Phillips' double, RU's second of the day, drove in both Heflebower and Kittay.
Junior Kobe Karhoff got the start on the mound for Regis. He and the Rangers defense allowed just one hit and two base runners through the first four innings. RU was then faced with their biggest defensive challenge in the top of the fifth, being forced to protect their 2-0 lead when the Wildcats loaded the bases with just one out.
The first out of the bullpen, junior
Tyce O'Neill, retired the only batter he faced on strikes before junior
Jordon Wyke was called from the pen. Wyke forced an infield groundout against the first batter he faced, retiring the inning and continuing the shutout.
Regis extended their lead to 4-0 when Zimmerman found the scoreboard in left field with a two-out, two-run home run. His homer sent sophomore
Marcus Salvato, who got on board with a single to right field, across home plate.
The Wildcats scored two runs on three hits in the last two innings, but it was too little, too late and the Rangers collected their fourth win of the season.
Game Notes | Game 1: RU overcame four errors by doubling the Wildcats hit total. Regis tallied eight while Wayne State College had four. Seven different Rangers accounted for a hit, but it was senior
Connor Rochon (2-3, 2 2B) that led the team with two.
Zimmerman and Phillips each recorded two RBI's. Heflebower had a team-high four assists.
Karhoff improved his record to 1-2 on the season after allowing just one hit in 4.1 innings of work. All four pitchers struck out one batter. Senior
Matt Heibulthas earned a save in back-to-back appearances. He was given the save after allowing one run on two hits in one inning of work.
How It Happened | Game 2: The first 12 RU batters were retired in order, aside from a batter being hit by a pitch in the third inning. Regis was held hitless until freshman
Miguel Marquez doubled in the fifth inning. The side was retired before he could reach third base.
The Rangers found themselves with a 4-0 deficit going into the bottom of the sixth inning. They were able to load the bases but did not get on the scoreboard before the
Wildcats extended their lead to 5-0 in the seventh.
RU scored two runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh, but the game ended with the go-ahead run at the plate.
Game Notes | Game 2: Regis was outhit 8-7 with five of their seven hits coming in the seventh inning. Marquez, the only Ranger with multiple hits, recorded his first career multiple hit game. He went 2-for-2 with a double and a run. Senior
Ryan Tierney was credited with both RBI's.
Sophomore
Colin King slid to 0-1 on the season after allowing three runs on four hits through 4.1 innings of work. He tallied three of seven strikeouts from the RU pitching staff.
