Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. – The Regis University softball team continued Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this afternoon as they competed in a pod series with Colorado State University-Pueblo and Black Hills State University in Pueblo, Colorado. The Rangers took game one 10-7 over the ThunderWolves before defeating the Yellow Jackets 1-3.
Game One | How It Happened: CSU-Pueblo struck first in the contest, opening the scoring in the third inning to grab a quick 3-0 edge on the Rangers.
Laura Scheffel led off in the bottom of the fourth, taking a base on balls before
Carly Beard and
Jessi Case juiced the bases with all three outs still alive.
Michelle Larose stepped up the plate next and unleased her first career homerun to erase the deficit and put Regis ahead 4-3.
The Rangers didn't quit there as Alexis Martinez plated a fifth run before Beard ripped a single back at the pitcher to score
Analece Apodaca.
Morgan Stradley tallied the final run of the inning to give Regis a comfortable 7-3 advantage heading into the next frame.
RU did not concede a run in the top of the sixth while the offense continued to pommel the ThunderWolves. Case doubled down the right field line to score Scheffel and
Tori Brown moments prior to a
Kynra Nelson single that brought home Case.
Hard pressed to come up with runs, CSU-Pueblo dug deep to continue the fight and battled to come back within three. Regis stood tall, however, and took home the 10-7 win.
Game Notes: Maisie Mortimer picked up the win in the circle for the Rangers, giving up seven runs on 13 hits while recording one strikeout.
Case finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, recording two runs on two hits with two RBIs. Scheffel also tallied two runs while Beard collected three hits and Nelson, Martinez, Apodaca, and Larose earned two hits.
Stradley and Case notched four assists each and Apodaca amassed eight putouts.
Game Two | How It Happened: Regis went on to garner a second win against the Yellow Jackets in game two. RU gave up the lone run in the bottom of the third before retaliating with three unanswered runs of their own.
Stradley came through for the Rangers, pelting a hard hit ball that would go yard and bring home
Maggie Washer.
From there, the Regis defense held Black Hills to a single hit throughout the remainder of play and retired 10 straight batters. Case added an insurance run in the top of the seventh off a Nelson sacrifice fly to deep left field, bring the final score to 3-1 in favor of the Rangers.
Game Notes: Stradley finished the day 1-for-3 at the plate, recording one run on a hit, yielding two RBIs. Washer and Case both added runs while Beard tallied a team-leading 10 putouts.
Taylor Armitage earned the win over BHSU, allowing one hit on five runs. Nine of the 24 batters she faced would fall to strikeouts.
