DENVER, Colo. – Senior
Chris Isbell pitched his first career complete game, guiding the Regis University baseball team (11-23, 6-15 RMAC) to a 9-5 win over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (21-14, 13-8 RMAC) on Friday afternoon.
How It Happened: Regis broke the 0-0 tie when redshirt-senior
Logan Heflebower launched a two-run shot over the left field fence to put the Rangers in front 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Neither team drove in any runs in the third or the fourth innings, but in the top of the fifth inning it was the Mountain Lions that capitalized on an RU error, loading the bases with two outs. UCCS' Matt Clark lined a double over the right-fielders head, clearing the bases before he was thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple.
Heading into the bottom of the sixth trailing 3-2, redshirt-senior
Mickey Meinhofer singled up the middle and redshirt-senior
Connor Rochon walked. Junior
Coby Zimmerman connected on a massive three-run homerun to left field, giving the home side a 5-3 lead. At the end of the sixth inning, Regis found themselves ahead 8-3 after putting up a six-spot.
One inning later, Zimmerman came to the plate with nobody on and smashed his second homerun of the game over the fence, sending this solo blast over the fence in left-center, putting the Rangers ahead 9-3.
The Mountain Lions scored one run in both the eighth and ninth inning, but Isbell forced three-straight fly-outs to close the door, 9-5.
Game Notes: Zimmerman (3-4, 2 HR, 1 2B, 4 RBI) and Heflebower (3-4, 1HR, 1 2B, 2 RBI) led RU with three hits each. Together, they tallied six RBI's and three homeruns. Regis outhit the Mountain Lions 10-7. Meinhofer (2-5, 2 RBI) and freshman
