SHAWKNEE, OK. – The undefeated and No. 9 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (12-0, 5-0 RMAC) extended their winning streak to 12-straight with a 20-0 shutout over the Lady Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University (4-5, 1-4 RMAC) on Friday afternoon.
How It Happened: Regis had their way with OBU for the entire 60-minute contest. Senior
Lauren Hurd opened the game with a goal less than a minute into the game. Hurd would go on to score a season-high three goals in the game, one-shy of her career-high of four.
The Rangers scored their tenth goal of the game at the midway point of the first half when freshman
Lucy Johnson netted an unassisted goal. Right before the end of the first half, junior
Andrea Macalalad, senior
Grace Rosenthal and freshman
Monica Looney each scored for the visitors, putting RU in front 13-0 at halftime.
The second half saw much of the same domination from Regis as they scored seven goals on nine shots, pacing the team to a remarkable 20-0 win. The Rangers were unmatched on the offensive or defensive end of the field.
Game Notes: RU was unbelievably efficient in the match, scoring on 20 of their 23 total shots, while only allowing two shots against their goalkeepers. Sophomore
Kyleigh Peoples (2 G, 3 A, 1 GB, 2 DC) led all players with five points in the game. Both Macalalad (3 G, 1 A, 1 DC) and freshman
Jordan Winchester (4 A, 1 GB) tallied four points in the match. For Macalalad, the four points matched a career-high while the points and four assists set a new career mark for Winchester in both categories. Junior
Ali Vanek (3 G, 2 GB, 1 CT), along with Macalalad and Hurd (3 G, 3 DC), posted three goals in the game Looney, and three others, netted two goals in the game.
In net,
Elle Crawford earned the win (W, 12-0) after spending 16:41 in goal without facing a single shot. Senior
Hope Correia saw most of the action, spending 43:19 in between the pipes, making one save as the two goalkeepers combined to earn their first shutout of the season.
This is the program's fourth shutout in program history and their first since 2011.
Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 9 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team will go toe-to-toe with the No. 3 ranked Lindenwood University Lions on Sunday at 12 p.m. in a battle of unbeatens atop of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Some around the women's lacrosse community have referred to this game as the "Game of the Year" and on Sunday we will all finally get to witness the excitement. The game has some postseason and regional implications on the line, and at the end of it there will only be one unbeaten team left.
