ST. GEORGE, UTAH – The Regis University baseball team (13-27, 8-19 RMAC) split Friday's doubleheader against Dixie State University (27-14, 17-10 RMAC), losing the first game 6-7 and winning game two 8-5 in extra innings.
How It Happened | Game One: The Rangers turned three first-inning hits into three runs, leading to an early 3-0 advantage. After the Trailblazers scored one run in the bottom of the frame, RU added two to their lead in the top of the fourth, giving them a 5-1 lead.
Redshirt senior
Connor Rochon hit a solo shot in the fifth inning, resulting in a 6-2 Regis edge. The Trailblazers scored five unanswered runs to take their first lead of the game, 6-7. They put up a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth to claim game one of the series, 6-7.
Game Notes | Game One: Freshman
Jacob Barr (2-2, 1 RBI) batted 1.000 as he led the Rangers with two hits. Six other RU batters recorded a hit for a team total of seven. Regis outhit Dixie State seven to six but were plagued with three errors.
Freshman
Justin Kleinsorge got the start on the mound for the Rangers. He went four complete innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He also retired five batters on strikes. Junior
Cobe Karhoff (3-6) was given the loss after allowing five runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
How It Happened | Game Two: RU scored three runs on three hits in the first inning for the second-straight game. They went scoreless in the second and third inning while the Trailblazers made their way back into the game with two runs in the second and one run in the third.
Junior
Ryan Tierney, who reached via a fielders' choice, came around to score on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to help Regis regain their lead, 4-3. Dixie State, however, took their first lead of the game with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth.
The Rangers responded quickly, tying the game with one run on two hits and two errors in the top of the sixth inning. Both teams were scoreless in the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings.
Tierney reached base in the top of the eighth via a walk. He then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt by the Dixie State pitcher. Rochon then doubled to right-center, scoring Tierney and giving RU a 6-5 edge. Regis scored two more runs, coming by way of a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a bases loaded walk, giving them an 8-5 lead.
Junior Jordan Wyke forced three-straight outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure an 8-5 victory for Regis.

Coby Zimmerman (2-5, 1 RBI) and redshirt senior
Logan Heflebower (2-4, 1 RBI) all recorded multiple hits. The Rangers out hit the Trailblazers 9-7.
Freshman
Brayden Brooks got the start and went five complete innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He retired five batters on strikes. Wyke (1-2) earned his first win of the season after pitching 2.2 inning, allowing zero runs and zero hits while striking out three batters.
