DENVER, Colo. – For the first time this season, the Regis University baseball team (18-28, 13-20 RMAC) played as the away team on the Regis Baseball Field, taking care of Colorado Christian University (12-34, 7-26 RMAC) 6-0 on Thursday afternoon.
How It Happened: Redshirt senior
Mickey Meinhofer roped the fourth pitch he faced down the left-field line, recording the first hit of the day on the Rangers first at-bat. A defensive error by the Cougars second baseman allowed Meinhofer to reach the opposite corner before coming around to score on an RBI groundout by redshirt senior
Connor Rochon.
The Cougars left one runner stranded in the bottom of the first before RU got out of a bases loaded situation in the second inning. The score remained 1-0, in favor of Regis, until junior
Coby Zimmerman hit a solo home run to left-field in the top of the fourth inning.
The Rangers then left two runners on base in the fifth inning but were able to push two runs across in the sixth. RU used three hits, two of which were doubles, and an error to score their sixth inning runs. Both runs came across with zero outs.
With the bases loaded and one out in the seventh innings, redshirt senior
Logan Heflebower doubled down the left-field line scoring Meinhofer and Rochon who reached on singles. The two-RBI double stretched the Regis advantage to 6-0
Game Notes: Meinhofer (3-5) recorded three singles as he led the Rangers in the hit column. Zimmerman (2-3, 1 HR, 1 2B, 1 RBI) was the only other RU batter with multiple hits. Regis was outhit by the Cougars 10-9. The Rangers did not commit a defensive error while CCU committed four.
Senior
Chris Isbell (3-3) got his third win of the season in complete game fashion. It is his second complete game of the season. Isbell allowed zero runs on 10 hits. He had four strikeouts in the game.
