Regis Spilts With Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team (19-29, 14-21 RMAC) spilt Saturday's doubleheader with Colorado Christian University (13-35, 8-27 RMAC), taking the first contest by a score of 9-7 before falling in the second half of the twin bill 7-6.

Game One | How it Happened: Regis used a quartet of hits in the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 advantage. Thomas Alexander got the scoring started with a single through the left side that scored Coby Zimmerman before Mickey Meinhofer crushed a rocket back to the pitcher to bring home Jacob Barr.

The Cougars immediately responded by rattling off three runs in the bottom half of the second. Two singles and a fielder's choice to third base put CCU ahead 3-2.

Following a scoreless third inning, CCU added a fourth run off a Cougar homerun down the left field line. RU closed the gap with a Barr triple to right center that sent Zimmerman home while Andy Beyene and Ryan Tierney both tallied another pair of runs to put Regis ahead 5-4 after six innings.

The seventh inning saw four more Rangers come in. Barr notched the first before Kennedy Phillips reached home on a wild pitch and Meinhofer went yard for a two-RBI dinger over left field bringing home Beyene with it.
CCU hit back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh frame but would be stopped short, ensuring a Regis 9-7 victory.

Game Notes: Meinhofer paced RU going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and one run. Barr tallied two runs on two hits while Alexander followed with two hits and as many RBIs.

Justin Kleinsorge earned the start in game one, recording three strikeouts while giving up three earned runs. Kendrick Catron came in as relief to tally one strikeout and one allowed run.

Game Two | How it Happened: The Rangers' six-game winning streak came to a close in the nightcap as they narrowly fell 7-6 to the Cougars.

After one inning of action, Regis took a 2-0 lead, kick-started by a Rochon double to deep right center that allowed Meinhofer to plate a first run. Rochon went on to add a second run following off a double to left center off the bat of Logan Heflebower.

Regis extended the gap to 4-0 after Beyene and Tierney scored off hits from Tierney and Heflebower singles respectively.

CCU retorted with a pair of runs over the next two innings before registering five runs during the sixth and seventh frame to take a slight 7-6 edge that withstood the remainder of the contest.

Game Notes: Pitchers Adam Hubley and Cobe Karhoff both finished with three strikeouts apiece while Matt Heibult and Kobie Schmitt both tallied one each.

Rochon, Heflebower and Beyene each tallied two hits each while Heflebower recorded a team-best two-RBIs.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis continues their four-game series with the Cougars tomorrow afternoon as they enter into a 4 PM contest.
