No. 1 seeded Rangers advance to RMAC Tournament Championship

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The No. 1 seeded Regis University Rangers (17-0, 9-0 RMAC) thrashed the No. 4 seeded Rockhurst University Hawks 17-4 in the semifinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament.

How it Happened:Regis was unstoppable in the opening half of the game, combining to score 11 goals while also holding the Hawks scoreless through the first 30 minutes of the game. One big reason for the big margin at halftime was due in part to the stellar defense from the Rangers. Sophomore goalkeeper Elle Craword faced six total shots, making four saves for a perfect 1.000 save percentage, her first 1.000 save percentage of the season.

RU scored the first two goals of the second half to take a commanding 13-0 lead with 25:19 to go in the game. At the 22:52 mark of the second half, Rockhurst netted their first goal of the game. Junior Ali Vanek and sophomore Kyleigh Peoples responded with back-to-back goals to give the designated home team a 15-1 lead midway through the half.

The pace slowed down quickly after Regis took the 14-goal lead, which saw the Hawks outscore the Rangers 3-2 in the final 15 minutes. RU cruised their way to a 17-4 semifinal win over No. 4 seeded Rockhurst.

Game Notes: Vanek (5 G, 1 A, 2 GB) tallied a game-high six points with five goals and one assist. Senior Sarah Myres (4 G, 1 A, 2 GB, 1 CT, 2 DC) continued to shine as she recorded five points in the game. Peoples (2 G, 2 A, 2 DC) and senior Wendy Donier (1 G, 3 A, 1 CT, 3 DC) each had four points in the game.

Crawford (W, 16-0) continues to show why she was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Goalkeeper of the Year, but she also enjoyed a lot of help defensively with six players registering a caused turnover, and eight scooping up at least one ground ball. Freshman Maya Quigley had a team-high two caused turnovers, and senior Lauren Hurd added a team-best four ground balls to go with a caused turnover.

Up Next for the Rangers:With the victory, the No. 1 seeded Regis University women's lacrosse team advances to the RMAC Tournament Championship on Sunday at 11 a.m. (MST) where they will matchup with winner of second quarterfinal game between the No. 2 seeded Lindenwood University Lions and the No. 3 seeded Colorado Mesa University Mavericks.
