SALT LAKE CITY – The Regis University men's soccer team (7-6-1, 3-4 RMAC) suffered a disheartening 1-0 loss to the Westminster College Griffins (7-8, 4-3 RMAC) on Friday afternoon.
How It Happened: Having lost two games in a row by one goal each game, Regis was looking to get back on the winning track against the Griffins on Friday afternoon. As many of the contests have been this season, the two teams were evenly matched throughout the 90 minutes.
The only goal of the match was scored by the Griffins in the 34
th minute during the first half when the home team built up a 10-7 advantage in shots. Graduate student goalkeeper
Tim Dolan was peppered with shots all game, forcing him to make a career-high nine saves in the game.
RU pushed the pace a little more in the second half as they outshot WC 8-5, but among their five shots on goal, none of them managed to find the back of the net.
Game Notes: Dolan's nine saves ser a new career-high for the keeper, whose previous career-high was six saves. It was an unfortunate way to end the night for Dolan who put on such a magnificent performance in between the posts for the Rangers. RU had 11 corner kick opportunities in the game, but they were unable to convert on any of the set pieces.
Up Next for the Rangers: The Regis University men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Sunday when they travel to Grand Junction to take on the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on their home turf at 2:30 p.m.
