Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Regis Extends Win Streak to Four With Victory Over Concordia St. Paul

Dawson scores a season-best 26 points

DENVER - The Regis University men's basketball team (4-1,0-0 RMAC) battled the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears (1-5,0-1 NSIC), Friday evening at the Regis Field House. This was the first time since Dec. 12, 2009 that the two teams have met. Regis won that game in St. Paul, 73-59. Tonight, graduate student guard Brian Dawson (26 pts) led the squad to its fourth victory in a row.

How it Happened: Junior guard Will Cranston-Lown scored the first field goal of the game for either team, but the Golden Bears matched Regis' intensity well. RU kept solid control of the game despite CSP shooting 53 percent from the field in the first half. An 8-1 run to start the half helped RU keep the ball on their end of the floor and out of the hands of CSP.

Later on with 10 minutes to play in the half, the Golden Bears drained a 3-pointer to equalize the score at 16. More hot shooting from the Golden Bears would put them up by as much as 10 with five minutes to play. But Regis thundered back on a 14-0 run in the span of just four minutes to give them a 36-32 lead. The run was capped by an absolutely electric dunk from redshirt junior guard/forward Kevin Ebiriekwe which got the fans at the Field House on their feet.

The Rangers' second half encore would prove to be lights-out shooting. The team shot an incredible 58 percent from the field, 100 percent from behind the arc (two baskets) and 89 percent at the line.

With five minutes to go in the game, Regis had their biggest lead of the night (28 points) after freshman Brayden Carter got a layup in the paint to make the score 79-51. The Golden Bears would mount a small comeback, but it was too little too late as Regis took the 83-64 win.

Game Notes: RU had their best shooting from the three all season long (46 percent) and their second-best shooting percentage from the field (50 percent) in the victory tonight.

Regis protected the rock well tonight as they only committed 14 turnovers compared to CSP's 27. Regis capitalized off turnovers with 35 points off.

The Golden Bears out-rebounded the Rangers by a margin of 36-31.

Dawson (11-20 FG, 2-6 3-PT) owned a season-high 26 points as well as four boards, two assists, a block and three steals.

Cranston-Lown (6-11 FG) was close behind with 14 points, three boards, two steals and an assist.

Graduate student guard Troy Brady (3-5 FG, 3-4 3-PT) added 11 points plus four steals and three assists. He led the team in rebounding with five boards.

Junior guard Eddy Egun (2-5 FG, 1-1 3-PT) took home nine points and four rebounds.

Up Next for the Rangers: Regis returns to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. versus the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks (2-3).
